The Playground mode, on the other hand, gives the player the ability to try their hand at a bit of free-roaming in a map set in the woods of Wales complete with waypoints (timed challenges) to face. In case, there is always the possibility to recreate / share with the community the dream tracks through the implemented editor, which offers very little news compared to the previous edition. Milestone reproduced 12 official tracks of the World Championship (only those of the Mantua and French GPs are missing) and added 4 historical circuits renamed “Legacy Tracks”: Ottobiano (Italy), Leon (Mexico), Agueda (Portugal) and Ernee (France) come from previous editions of the series. Overall, our advice is to play with advanced physics activated and all aids deactivated: so MXGP 2021 can be a spectacle. As for the gameplay, we tested MXGP 2021 on Xbox Series S.: Compared to the PlayStation 5 version, the pad experience in hand proved to be less engaging than that which can be obtained with DualSense and haptic feedback. The crashes of the pilots are nothing short of clumsy and it is too easy to get caught up in some accident (it is always better to stay away from the big group).

The best weight distribution affects not only the rider’s way of cornering or jumping but even in elbow-to-elbow clashes with opponents on the track.Ĭompared to the other productions signed by Milestone (to get an idea, read our review of MotoGP 21), Artificial Intelligence doesn’t shine very much: the opposing drivers follow more or less the same trajectories, while the train that forms in each race moves more or less in unison, causing spectacular accidents in certain situations. The handling of the vehicle and the physical engine have been modified: if in the previous episodes the bikes seemed a bit too light, in MXGP 2021 Milestone has bet very strongly on simulation realism.
Once the clutch is released, one gets the feeling that Milestone has changed something. By competing (also in the other game modes) it will be possible to earn precious credits to buy new technical material both for your avatar and to make your racing car more competitive. As always, the track will speak: based on the performances obtained, it will be possible to obtain more profitable contracts, new sponsors and offers from some other prestigious team. To make the progression a little smoother, Milestone has added a series of side events to break the usual plot made up of tests and races to be played. In short, in MXGP 2021 there is everything a fan expects to find including the various Cairoli, Febvre, Gajser, Herlings and all the champions who usually compete in the two motocross categories. Two- and four-stroke racing cars are kindly offered by KTM, Husqvarna, Honda, Yahama and other manufacturers, while spare parts are supplied by none other than Yoshimura, Öhlins, Michelin, Pirelli and other companies. The catalog offered by MXGP 2021 is nothing short of impressive: Alpinestars, Arai, Shoei, Oakley are “just” some of the brands present in terms of technical equipment. You can change different things (name, number, helmet, sponsor and more) even if your virtual alter ego is not yet editable.
